The short answer
AirCore repairs gas furnaces, wall heaters, and heat pumps in West Hollywood homes, starting with a diagnosis and a safety check before any repair. If replacement makes more sense, we explain the current South Coast AQMD furnace rules and confirm which rebates your utility offers before you decide.
Most West Hollywood winters are mild, so a heater can sit unused for months and then fail on the first cold night. AirCore HVAC Repair Service is based in Los Angeles, about 6 miles southeast of West Hollywood, and we repair gas furnaces, wall and floor heaters, and heat pumps in homes throughout the city. Whether you live in a condo, a duplex, or a single-family house, we find the actual cause of the problem, explain it in plain terms, and fix what needs fixing.
Common Heating Problems in West Hollywood Homes
In a mild climate, heating systems often sit idle from spring through fall. Dust settles on burners, filters get forgotten, and small parts like igniters and flame sensors can fail the first time the system runs hard. Many of the calls we get from West Hollywood come in the first cool weeks of the season, when a heater that seemed fine last year will not start or runs without warming the room.
Older buildings add their own issues. Wall and floor furnaces, aging ductwork, and thermostats wired decades ago can all cause uneven heat or short cycling. In condos and multi-unit buildings, equipment may be tucked into tight closets or mounted on the roof, which affects how we access it and what repair options make sense.
- Heater runs but blows cool or lukewarm air
- Furnace clicks or tries to light, then shuts off
- Burning dust smell that lingers past the first few minutes of use
- Heat pump stuck in cooling mode or not switching to heat
- Rooms heating unevenly or the system cycling on and off quickly
- Loud banging, squealing, or rattling from the unit or vents
What Happens During a Heating Repair Visit
We start by asking what you have noticed and when it started. Then we test the system: thermostat signal, ignition sequence, flame quality, blower operation, airflow, and electrical connections. On heat pumps, we check the reversing valve, defrost controls, and refrigerant-side performance.
Once we know the cause, we tell you what is wrong, what the repair involves, and whether there are other issues worth watching. We do not start work until you approve it. Many common repairs, such as replacing an igniter, flame sensor, capacitor, or blower part, can often be finished in the same visit if the part is on hand.
Gas Heater Safety Comes First
A gas furnace or wall heater that is not burning correctly can produce carbon monoxide. Every repair visit includes a look at the burners, the venting, and the heat exchanger area for cracks, rust, or signs of poor combustion. If we find a problem that makes the unit unsafe to run, we will tell you directly and explain your options.
If you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas utility or 911 from outside before calling us. If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call 911. Make sure you have a working CO alarm near sleeping areas, especially if you have any gas appliances.
Repair or Replace? What West Hollywood Homeowners Should Know
Most heating problems are repairable, and we will say so when that is the case. Replacement starts to make sense when a furnace has a cracked heat exchanger, needs repeated major repairs, or no longer heats the home well.
If you are considering a new gas furnace, check the current version of South Coast AQMD Rule 1111. It limits nitrogen oxide emissions from natural-gas central furnaces sold and installed in the Los Angeles region, and the district has been amending it toward zero-emission requirements. The district sets and revises the compliance dates, so we review the current rule with you before recommending equipment.
Heat pumps are worth a look in this climate, since one system handles both heating and cooling. Rebates depend on which utility serves your address. LADWP residential customers can apply for rebates on qualifying heat pump systems after installation, but West Hollywood is a separate city from Los Angeles, and many homes outside the City of Los Angeles are served by Southern California Edison instead. We confirm the current offer for your address before quoting it. The federal 25C tax credit for heat pumps applied only to systems placed in service before December 31, 2025, so it is not available for new installations.
How to Prepare for Your Appointment
A few simple steps help us diagnose the problem faster and keep the visit focused.
- Note when the problem started and what the system does, such as sounds, smells, or error lights
- Check that the thermostat has power and is set to heat
- Replace or check the air filter if you can reach it safely
- Clear a path to the furnace closet, attic access, or wall heater
- Let your building manager or HOA know if the unit is on a roof or in a shared space
